The Program of Big Band Memories
Getting Sentimental Over You
Host: Dave Clark
Sunday 6:00 p.m.

About the show:

Getting Sentimental Over You features popular music played by dance bands from the later 1920s through the mid-1940s, plus other music reminiscent of that era, which may include more modern bands playing in the old style.

I sometimes feature vocalists singing in other (later) venues, but usually only if they once sang with the big bands or had some other big band connections during their careers.

I play thirty three and a third (33 1/3) rpm long play (LP) records almost exclusively and have over 4,000 of them in my personal collection. Only about half of them are big band-type records; the rest are mostly classical and easy-listening.

I also have 78 rpm records as well as cassette, 8-track, and reel-to-reel tapes, which I also occasionally play on the show.

Most of the music played is from my own collection, although friends and listeners sometimes donate music to the show. I also have access to WUAL's 12,000 LP library, much of which is also from the big band era.

About the host:

Dave Clark was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan, on May 1st, 1950 and has lived in Alabama since 1990, when he came to Montgomery to teach professional military education at the United States Air Force Senior Non-commissioned Officer Academy at Maxwell Air Force Base.

In high school, Dave played the trumpet and led his own dance band. He has loved big band music since at least age 11, when he used to listen to it both on various Detroit radio stations and on his parents' record collection.

Getting Sentimental Over You has been on-the-air since February 2002. It was a spin-off of Dale Owen's "The Crooners." Dave plays music from his own 4,000-plus record collection.

Dave retired from the Air Force in 1995 at the rank of Senior Master Sergeant after 26 years of active duty, which included assignments to Vietnam, Korea, and The Republic of Panama as a member of the world's largest police force, the USAF Security Police.

He holds associate degrees in Criminology and Instructor of Technology from the Community College of the Air Force, a bachelor's degree in Management of Human Resources from Faulkner University, a juris doctorate from Jones School of Law, and a masters degree in Library and Information Studies from the University of Alabama.

Since 1997, he has been the Law Librarian for Lightfoot, Franklin, and White, L.L.C., Trial and Appellate Counsel, in Birmingham, AL.

Since 2001, Dave has been married to the former Connie Lishman of Montclair, California. Between them, they have five children and six grandchildren. The Clarks live in McCalla, Alabama.  Connie is an employee of the Birmingham Public Library System. She and Dave also enjoy working together as the projectionists for Tuscaloosa's historic Bama Theatre.

In their spare time Dave and Connie are avid RV campers.  They enjoy spending time at Moundville Archaeological Park and other Alabama Campgrounds.
